Modern placement and underwriting infrastructure for the Australian market – introducing Cuttleflow

Presenter: Max Broodryk – Founder and Executive Director
Australia’s insurance trading infrastructure — the systems where risk is priced, demand is managed, and placements happen — is concentrated in ageing platforms at a moment when both incumbents face ownership upheaval.
This session examines what modern trading infrastructure looks like and what it changes for underwriting agencies: straight-through quoting with deterministic rules and referrals, built-in sanctions screening, tax and billing, and a fully auditable decision record.
It then introduces the placement marketplace model — structured submissions, blind matching on declared and demonstrated appetite, sealed-bid pricing, and a guaranteed answer by deadline (a quote, or a decline with a reason) — and what neutral operation of that venue means in practice: identical published fees, no client money held, every match logged and checkable.
The session closes with a first public walkthrough of Cuttleflow’s underwriting platform, broker system and marketplace, and how UAC members can participate. 45–50 minutes plus Q&A.
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Describe the current structure of Australia’s insurance trading infrastructure and why it is changing now.
- Explain how deterministic rules engines, automated referrals, sanctions screening and audit ledgers change underwriting agency operations and compliance obligations.
- Explain how a placement marketplace matches hard-to-place risks to insurer appetite, and evaluate the governance features (blind matching, sealed bids, auditable routing, published fees) that distinguish a neutral venue.
- Assess the practical steps, benefits and considerations for an agency, broker or business service member connecting to modern placement infrastructure.
