The costs in this area have been increasing and whilst a broker can ‘polish up a risk’ as so to speak, there are risks!! We have had more brokers approaching our firm to undertake legal work for their clients prior to renewal to actually reduce the likelihood of future claims rather than merely telling a story of the risk. We have re-drafted sub-consultant agreements to tighten up terms, advised on risk retainer documents and produced reports for insurers which are provided at renewal to explain clients with substantial claims. This is a topic where we can help brokers with complex renewals and can give an overview of the types of claims we are seeing for building practitioners (structural and geotechnical engineers, building surveyors and builders/developers).
